Beginner's Guide to Data Science

Hello viewers and welcome to my blog.

I am a learner and still exploring and sharing my experience with you all.

In this article, i am going to talk about Data Science. To be honest, i am one of you who was looking for a career switch. Initially, i was struggling with my career, tried different jobs like teaching to school kids, then i became an online tutor at one of edtech. Along with teaching i used to read about Data Science, studying and learning. Hustling from time to time about Data Science, from where the data comes, how the data is used and how useful it is if applied.

Data Science is a vast field and you cannot learn everything at the same time. You have to choose your interest and start learning. Only learning is not enough you have to implement it as well.

Practice, practice and practice.

In Data Science, there are three important roles - Data Engineer, Data Analyst and Data Scientist. Each have important role to play.

I will first talk about Data Engineering. Data Engineering is a very interesting field. Until and unless you don’t deep dive you will not understand the niche.

Data Engineers collect information, the information can be raw, unstructured, structured, messed up. Where this data come from? Data comes from Scraping, extracting, scanning a raw document, IOT, etc. I personally, find this field interesting, i like to collect information and structuring it. In short Data Engineers collect, extract, transform and load (ETL)so that data can be analysed. Most of the time, data engineers cleans the data, creating pipeline of data.

Skills required- Python, Web Scraping, ETL, Airflow, Kafka.

Data Analyst role is to analyze the data, visualize the information. How creatively you present the data is important so that the person can easily understand what you want to convey. Data Analysts are story tellers giving insights about the future goals and what suits best. They are involved in how and why the e.g. sales were dropped and where it can be fixed. The main responsibilities of a data analyst is to create reports and dashboards.

Skills required — Should be a good communicator, Tableau, PowerBI, SQL, Advance Excel, Statistics.

Data Scientist have a very important role to play because they find new ways of capturing and analyzing data. They design how a data is stored, manipulated and analyzed. A data scientists needs to have good statistical skills and if you like number then this is best career fit.

Skills required — Python basics, statistics, SQL, Good Communicator

I recommend you the following courses-

  1. DataCamp — you can try the free course before purchasing, they have designed a interactive way of learning. https://www.datacamp.com/
  2. AnalyticalVidhya — https://courses.analyticsvidhya.com/courses/introduction-to-data-science
  3. CloudyML — CloudyML is affordable and very nicely designed as compared to other courses in market. Why it differs from other online courses is — it is totally assignment based learning, you will get 24/7 mentors guidance, it is designed in such a way that you will learn it step by step if you are new to Python. It is complete roadmap to Data Science. You can learn it on your own pace. Also, they provide internship opportunity. Help you with interview preparation. I have enrolled, when you are going to enroll. Refer below link for enrolling and start your Data Science journey with CloudyML https://courses.cloudyml.com?affCode=YPNHYJ
